This house & garden was literally a building site when we first visited. With a conservative budget the lovely couple here with 2 children wanted some space for the family to play with resilient planting for ball games and a separate area for entertaining extended family and friends.
We decided to work with the huge tree to the rear of the garden making it the focal point for a built-in seated area to maximise dining space plus additional casual seating by way of an extended day bed cut around the trunk.
Raised planters softened the space made cosy by the positioning of a small storage shed that helped to separate the lawn/play area to the grown up room.

With budget in mind we mixed a small amount of paving that matched the first terrace by the house with gravel to the rear, creating a staggered stepping stone effect interspersed with ground cover planting.
