The Brief for this garden was to produce a gorgeous wildlife-friendly natural garden with lots of organic curves and plentiful planting.

A garden room to the rear to provide an entertaining space, a gym and storage with direct access to the road.  An outdoor kitchen with grill and green egg to be discreetly located, along with a fire-pit seating area.

Children’s play equipment to be natural and engaging with wildlife and exercise.  Lots of planting and soft edges with landscaping where possible.

WHAT

We approached this garden with strong geometry to the terrace by the house in order to maximise on the space-planning and the amount of elements to be included. This was softened with staggered and planted borders adjacent to the house giving the impression of bringing the garden inside, as well as raised planters to encapsulate and provide greenery to the seating/fire pit area.   Disguising the outdoor kitchen with tall ornamental grasses, we planted these consistently throughout the garden for unity.   Three new levels were introduced to provide interest and a seamless transition from the house to the terrace. Clay paver steps mark the transition from the primary terrace to the garden and the change in style from rectangular to circular, giving a more fluid and organic theme as the garden makes its way to a woodland area for the children and a meandering path to a feature tree with garden room behind.

The circular lawn is referenced with Taxus, Pittosporum and Prunus balls to link the geometry and in turn create the backbone to the garden.  An abundance of perennials and grasses for movement and colour work their way through the space encouraging wildlife wherever possible.  Clay pavers edge the lawn and interconnect with decorative gravel towards the garden room.  Staggered edging avoids hard and straight lines and Rosemary, Thyme and 'Mind your own Business' weave their way through.  The children’s woodland trail takes them via raised tree trunks and balance beams to their very own home-made willow wigwam.
